28. Choosing Covenant Confidence & Wholeness in Hard Seasons
Over the last few weeks, I’ve been studying Sister Camille Johnson’s talk Spiritually Whole in Him. Her words pierced my heart, especially the reminder that wholeness in Jesus Christ is possible—even while we wait for physical or emotional healing.
When I studied this talk with my stake, one question stood out: “What word stood out to you?” For me, the word was choose. Sister Johnson reminds us that even if our healing hasn’t come, “we can choose to be made whole by exercising our faith in Him.”
That word—choose—is powerful. I’ve seen people in my own ward who have spent years bedridden, yet remain spiritually whole because they continually choose faith in Christ. Their wholeness isn’t about circumstances, but about devotion.
This message has intersected beautifully with my own study of integrity. Did you know “integrity” comes from the root word integer, which means whole? Integrity is about who we are when no one is watching, and it’s what makes us spiritually whole and connected to God.
The parable of the ten virgins, the sculpture outside the Relief Society Building in Salt Lake, and Elder Holland’s reminder that there’s no growth in the comfort zone—all point us back to the Savior. Wholeness comes through covenants, through keeping our lamps full, and through helping each other along the path.
I testify that even in the midst of trials, we can have joy and covenant confidence. Wholeness is possible when we stay connected to Jesus Christ.
