100 Years of Wisdom and Influence

My grandfather, Richard Gunn (whom we affectionately called Pop Pop) passed away in 2013, but his birthday is September 28th and if he had lived this long, today he would have been 100!

He’s not here, but he taught me some amazing things that contributed to who I am today:
-The best things happen on the extra mile.
-Faith and the Priesthood can heal illnesses &ailments.
But if you aren’t healed, faith and the Priesthood can heal your heart.
-Nothing is more important than family.
-Cherish moments and memories. Document your life. Share it with your family. It’s in these things that that hearts of the children really do turn to the fathers.
-Walk fast. There’s lots to see.
-Talk fast. There’s lots to say.
-Have a few good puns in your back pocket.
-See the world like an artist, appreciate everything God created.
-Why answer the phone with anything less than a smile, and perhaps a “Greetings & Salutations”?
-Life is not about what we SEE, it’s about what we understand.
-Shine like a STAR.
-God gave you talents. Use them.
-Wear a sweater, tuck your pants into your socks, and turn down the heat.
-Service is the language of God.
-There’s only one reason in the world to be sad: If BYU loses.
-For everything else, look on the bright side. There’s always a bright side.
-Don’t be last man.
and finally...
-What ever you do, do it with a BANG!

My grandfather was an art history professor at BYU. He also led tours for the BYU Travel Study program back in the 70s, 80s and 90s. I love this picture of him at the Louvre in Paris. Check out that hat!
